One possible way of addressing some of Jakob's concerns would be to add some 
language 
to the Catalog Relations section indicating that Atom allows you to use URIs as 
rel 
values, and to reuse rdf vocabularies such as frbr, sioc, etc.

URIs as rel values should be allowed but the spec should provide some guidance 
on 
useful relations. As far as I see there is no easy way to differentiate 
"Acquisition 
Relations" and "Relations between resources, so the spec should contain a set 
of 
Acquisition Relations that covers most use cases (see ISSUE #38).

It is very easy to differentiate acquisition relations and relations between 
resources since acquisition relations are strictly limited to rel values that 
start with opds:acquisition.
