Shady stuff going on in the Android world.

Just to let everyone here know that this company called the Jared Company has
stolen 90% of the TunesRemote+ source code in violation of the GPL. They have:

1. Not provided the GPL license with the code.
2. Not given credit to TunesRemote+ or TunesRemote as the original author.
3. Have not published their source code or given back to the original project
as required by the GPL.

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jaredco.remote

I have submitted a DMCA take-down with Google to inform them of the GPL
violation.

It seems they give this app away for FREE but have revenue driving Adware and
possibly other malware included in their APK. The APK requires a lot of
permissions that TunesREmote+ does not including access to your contacts etc.
I just wanted to let you all know.

For those of you interested here is the embarrasing response from the Jared
Company.

1. They first claim they used NONE of the TR+ code base.

2. Then they say they have posted the GPL on their website. Why do that if
you didn't use our code?

3. Then they claim they are allowed to make money on the GPL which is true,
however they did not comply with the rest of the license and make their source
code available to all including us. Once again why state that if you claim you
have not used our code?

Attached is their response in TIF format. What a joke!

JaredCo's app has been reinstated with zero changes. We could create a
campaign where you get anyone you know with an Android to download the app,
give it 1 star, then delete the app.

Just not right to claim others hard works as their own and trying to make money
on it... Sorry to hear bout it, sure will give it a bad rating.

Thanks! I couldn't agree more. For me its more about the way Jared Company
has gone about it than what they have done. Open Source is out there to help
the world, but to steal someone's work without giving credit or following a
license agreement!
