Icons tarball is .gz compressed #7

The spec say that tarball should be xz compressed.

It does? compressing .png files is only slightly worthwhile.

At least for Debian - for some reason, people are worried a lot about space there (and since this thing will only be uncompressed once, the increase in CPU usage shouldn't be a big deal). The XDG AppStream spec doesn say much about compression, it just says where the files should be decompressed to (how that happens is in the hand of the distributor).

3.9M arch-icons.tar 3.3M arch-icons.tar.gz 3.1M arch-icons.tar.xz

That's a whole lot of CPU time just to save 200Kb.

Agreed - I just did the same measurement (although -9 gets a bit more out of it). We should stay with .gz then, and I will convince the relevant people :) Thanks!
