No Mouse Movement #21

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install Jaunty whiteboard package
2. Connect Wii remote
3. Calibrate

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I'd expect the mouse to move when I use the LED pen, but it doesn't.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Cutting Edge Jaunty/Ubuntu 9.04

Please provide any additional information below.
Sorry for nagging you - I'm new to this, so it could well be I'm making a
terribly silly mistake...?! - It strikes me that calibrating works, whereas
after that the mouse pointer is put in the top left corner, and cannot be
moved, no matter what I do with my LED pen; opening and closing the
"Applications" menu work, though... - Another weird thing is that in the
whiteboard program window I can click on "Deactivate", whereas in the
control icon options, only "Activate" is possible...

Help appreciated!-)

The 'automated' version was a quick hack I did by a user's request. It is not
intended for normal usage and may not be functional. Can you try the Intrepid
version
to see if it works?.

Once you've dared to
sudo update-manager -d
there's no way back...-(

I meant to use the latest Whiteboard that was built for Intrepid, it should
also work
under Jaunty. I've taken down the automated version since except one user, many
don't
seem to be happy with it.

I had used the Intrepid version before the Jaunty package - same problem...

Can you verify that the Wiimote was working in door with little surrounding IR
sources (halogen lamps for one, it should work with florescent tubes)?. A
successful
calibration doesn't mean the cursor will behave as expected. If the cursor got
stuck
at the top left corner, it means it got invalid IR events from the Wiimote,
which
might be caused by unstable IR pen.

You may try directing the pen into the Wiimote instead, that isn't a practical
use
but useful for testing.

I did point the pen directly at the pen, but the cursor did not move. I'm
thinking of
reinstalling Intrepid just in case... - I've noticed that the Whiteboard
software
regularly crashes on first run. Doesn't a successful calibration mean the IR
pen is
ok? I checked the signal using a cam, and it seemed to work (steady light
whenever
button is pressed). - Sorry again for ignorantly robbing you of your time...

Hey, I reinstalled Ubuntu (Super Ubuntu 8.10 being my preferred distribution),
and
everything works smoothly - my problems must have had sth. to do with Jaunty or
a
wrong system setup: calibration was a breeze this time (it had taken *much*
longer
before - up to about 40 seconds until one of the four circles had "run full"
IYKWIM -
yes, it really took some time to get it right - try for yourself to hold a pen
steady
in one place for that long...-) - Anyway, I'm very happy - and (just in case I
may
have forgotten to do so before): thanks very much for this great piece of
software -
it's amazing - and your exemplary help. I'll definitely find a way of using the
WiiBoard in my classes!

Glad you've got it worked. It seems some of your cairo or GTK libraries were
troublesome. Any problem, don't hesitate to create a bug report. Thanks.
