commas are not an international standard digit group separator, some countries use a comma and some use a period, and use the opposite for a decimal point. in some technical contexts, a ⎖ decimal key separator may be used in place of a decimal point, and in many places, a thin space ( ), u$2009 is used as a digit group separator, see Wikipedia's style manual for numbers for some more details on the standards they use, and note https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimal_separator for some more detail on this type of notation
If it's somehow possible to grab the system locale and then work from there (or just allow the user to choose the separation mode) that would be good.
