The title may be a bit of a mess:tm: but essentially making one of the normal colour channels use the player colours means that they wont update their colour say you are using something like rgb. On the other hand the built-in player colour channels do update their colour.
Hopefully the image shows what I mean better, the icon is currently using the rgb effect on both colours. The bottom spikes use the player colour 1 and 2 channels and the top spikes use the first and second channel, both having its colour set to player colour 1 and 2 respectively
