Demo mode - to phase2-dev #487

Ideally, we will update demo mode to incorporate the waterfall stuff

@kiadso , re-requesting your review because I added commits since you did your last review. After testing further, more things were not working. I'm actually not sure if you already saw all of those and approved them, but jic not, I wanted to re-request.

I think we should try and first merge demo_mode into dev. Then we can try changing the file permissions or ignore file permission changes or something in demo_mode and see if that will push out all the extraneous files changed on this PR.
