Our concern is the increased server load from the searches. We do not want to be searched by default searches in the search box but it is ok if we are listed as an optional search.

The fact is, your site has a lot of important stuff that is 100% free and cannot be found anywhere else, perhaps it can increase its popularity too. But ok.
