oneNDA Membership #21

Discussion đź—Ł

oneNDA has a mission of creating a universally standardized and agreed upon NDA that will reduce legal work, increase transparency and speed up business dealings.

There could be an opportunity for Accord Project to become involved in and help shape this.

Context

During the beta phase, the aim is to get 1000 companies to adopt #oneNDA by the end of 2021

oneNDA is looking for 100 brand ambassadors, NDA standardization evangelists and legal innovators to form our founding members’ team. Founding Members will be asked for input on the #oneNDA roadmap, they’ll get early access to the oneNDA toolkit (coming soon) and get to be part of something amazing

Detailed Description

Phase 1: Founders Club

Timeline: 16 Feb - 1 March 2021

oneNDA is looking for 100 brand ambassadors, NDA standardization evangelists and legal innovators to form our founding members’ team. Founding Members will be asked for input on the #oneNDA roadmap, they’ll get early access to the oneNDA toolkit (coming soon) and get to be part of something amazing!

Phase 2: Consensus

Timeline: 1 March - 31 March 2021

Being able to tell the world that the #oneNDA was created collaboratively by our Founding Members is a pretty compelling argument for accepting standardization. It’s also a key component for its wider adoption. The aim is to gain consensus from our founding members on the format, language and content of the document that will form the #oneNDA.

Phase 3: Launch

Timeline: 1 April -onwards

Once oneNDA has an agreed template, it’s time to grow the #oneNDA club. Our aim is to get 1000 companies to formally adopt and use the #oneNDA by the end of 2021.

@tbrooke volunteered to investigate oneNDA further and look at other alternatives, and will report back at next meeting.

Hi, I'm the founder of the oneNDA initiative - let me know how I can help!

tbrooke commented 3 years ago

I contacted Electra from oneNDA and had a discussion about Accord Project and oneNDA with her and her cofounder. She indicated that the actual NDA was coming out in June - We discussed getting back together and seeing how we could colaborate - I suggest we could put it in Accord Project form and add it to our library and I offered to write a blog post describing the setup as a Cicero template. I also got her in touch with Kyle Mitchell about his NDA project that has many similarities to oneNDA

Hi all,

Great to be in contact.

Love the Accord Project, well done for bringing this to life.

I’ll be in touch when the oneNDA is finalised.

All the best,

Electra

[From TSC Meeting 25-March 2021]

- Tom provided update.
- Tom had a general conversation with Electra - oneNDA Co-founder.
- Won't have an NDA until June.
- Curious about what Accord Project is doing and vice versa.
- Could publish an open-source NDA in AP Template Library.
- Left open and agreed to stay in contact.

There is now a version 1.0 of oneNDA in the English language that can be downloaded at https://onenda.org

Here is a copy.

oneNDA+v1+form.pdf

It is licensed under the following version of Creative Commons: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/4.0/

"House rules" are well explained https://onenda.org/house-rules

I'm a little unsure if whether this means we can or cannot create an Accord Project template for it. @tbrooke maybe worth investigating with them, if you are still in touch?

Maybe the answer to that is yes, based on the CC licensing rules (and that useful pop-up):

I will check with them - I told them I would get back when they published it -- I don't do IP Law but it seems to me that we would give them credit and I don't see where we would change it other than to add additional capabilities that do not change the text. I would be glad to do an AP version -- It would be a good learning exercise

Hi all,

Happy to discuss this / explain on a call. Let me know if you’d like to set something up. It would be great to understand a bit more about what you envisage so we can assess how we can support.

@electra16385 That would be great! I can't speak for everyone, but what I was envisioning was an "official" Accord Project template for oneNDA. That would allow users to capture the data from signed oneNDAs (both parties information and the variables) so they can store that data, reference it etc. I think this could remain completely consistent with the current pdf used by oneNDA.

@tbrooke I would be happy to help create and demo a small initial example to illustrate

A draft oneNDA template is here: https://github.com/accordproject/cicero-template-library/pull/397

martinhalford commented 2 years ago

Ongoing with Tom and Oli. Use Jerome's initial template (see above).

Tom to ping OneNDA for a show and tell, and potential joint marketing posts.

Tom and I met on this one. Our recommendation is to pause and wait for six months before re-engaging.

Here is our reasoning:

  1. Low take-off growth for OneNDA so far (600 customers is tiny when everyone doing business out there is likely a NDA user).
  2. Claustack is still thinking of NDAs purely as standardized PDF documents.
  3. They don't have the means to host an Accord template

In six months we will see where these guys are in terms of growth and we will try to re-engage differently; we want to explore whether they are (if growth is there) open to market oneNDA and an equivalent AP template as a package, potentially the same with onePDA and so on.
