Application developer verification #36

Hi

I have a question because I couldn't find this information anywhere:

What is the current (or future) policy for verifying the author of an application that is put on the store?

I would like to avoid the problem that Flathub is currently struggling with - any person can compile an application that can mislead other users who will install it without thinking and reflection (you can't blame them for that). For example https://flathub.org/apps/net.mullvad.MullvadBrowser

Flathub currently combats this phenomenon by adding a "not verified" or "verified" badge. Linux Mint has added a special switch to hide unverified applications.

Will you only accept applications from original creators?

There is no formal current policy, but developers must be the owners of the app(s) they publish. We do intend to eventually have a more concrete, objective verification mechanism in place though such as domain verification.

We're not sure yet how best to comprehensively approach the issue you describe. However, yes, we intend to only accept applications containing official branding from their creators/owners. Forks and the like will need to use different names and branding.

Thank you for the information and I keep my fingers crossed for this project!
