To specify it more clearly, you get the option as control message from the 
server, e.g.:
D/OpenVPN-DaemonMonitor[/sdcard/openvpn/xxx.ovpn]-daemon-stdout( 7972): Thu Nov 
 3 19:02:50 2011 PUSH: Received control message: 'PUSH_REPLY,ping 
10,ping-restart 60,ip-win32 dynamic,route-gateway a.b.c.d,redirect-gateway 
def1,dhcp-option DNS a.b.c.e,dhcp-option DNS a.b.c.d.f,dhcp-option DOMAIN 
example.com,ifconfig a.b.c.g 255.255.255.0'
It would be nice if the nameservers transmitted there would be used as system 
Nameserver as long as the connection exists.

It could be solved like in tunnel droid that in app it is possible to set dns 
address.
After VPN connection estabilished two DNS servers should be used, one from 
Internet provider and second came from openvpn server or configured in openvpn 
settings.

I need this as well - in the meantime is there a workaround? Most of our 
internal servers rely on DNS A, CNAME and SRV records...

You can use old version of Tunnel Droid -  but this do not reconnect when 
connection is broken...

I found a workaround by using Set DNS from Market to manually set the android 
DNS servers to the internal ones.
