Muon decay measurement with CosMO detectors: problem with veto #34

Open aschulzdesy opened 9 years ago

I tried measuring the muon decay with 3 CosMO detectors. Detectors input at Ch0, Ch1, and Ch2.

Everything goes fine with the default settings: single pulse = ch1
double pulse = ch2 veto pulse = ch3 (which has no detector attached!) (see attached plot) ![Uploading muonicdecay_daq6936_fit.png…]()

When setting the channels to
single pulse = ch0 double pulse = ch1 veto = ch2

the number of events is 0 (even waiting for several hours). The rates for the single channels are fine (see attached plot). ![Uploading muonic_decay_noevents20h_Ch012.png…]()

A pulsefile with this setting would be helpful, so that one can actually see if there are always pulses in the veto channel

aschulzdesy commented 9 years ago

Hi, I now produced output files with the debug option. I attach them here, oh this is not possible. SO i send them to you. Does that help?

achim1 commented 9 years ago

That is a tough issue - can I request the pulsefile as well (the one which has "P" in it)? From the available files it seems that there were just always pulses in the veto channel. Plus in one of the "L" files it claims to actually have seen a decaying muon, so it stays confusing...

A new measurement revealed that it is able to see some muons, however only a very little amount (5 in 3 days of measurement), so actually I don't think this is a bug

Hi, hm I checked again with new detectors and so far I don't see any events in 1 day measurement (see attached plot) but I will keep running the experiment and we will see. muonzerfall_keineevents_24h_cosmo575859

Hi Achim, I did another check over the weekend. And I get the same results, the experiment with 3 detectors runs for four days now and with the veto set to the lowest detector we don't see any decay event. The rates for the single detectors are fine.

Should I do a check in debug mode?

We need a RAW file with decays in it to test it. Somebody could hack a RAW file and put decays manually in it. Or use LIDO and switch channels. It makes no sense to test it with something we are unsure of if anything has decayed at all. This should be the first step to fix this.

I think there is a problem with the version. Muonic 2.0.20 does the lifetime measurement, but the fit is not ok.
