So which one do I download then?
I uninstalled and installed the previous version, and it tells me something
about local-xxxx or something...

so wait, you mean it won't work because of my version of Cata?

That's what Chuansing said some comments above. It's maybe due to a trial
client version of wow.
Try to install official full 4.2 clinet (link given by Ellend), and tell us if
problem still here ;)

The only problem is that client is for EU not US. :|
So it won't work for my account...
Still waiting on my install disk to finish up.(managed to locate it after
looking through a bunch of boxes)

Have the same issue.
It works perfectly until I try load a character. I have WMV saves from before,
but they don't work either. I also have the EU version of WoW

Found PART of the problem...
Michael...a? WE can't use the items/characters/other things that is written
with light blue colour... The ones written in black works fine, but the rest...
well.. *chrash*

There were not characters in light blue, they were all black.
I tried loading my Cata from a disk and I'm still having the same issue.
Except now it says something about can't load the .MQL(?)
And it's Michaela... ._.;

Hmm... That's just me then :1
The WMV reads data from the directory where WoW is saved, so the disks won't
help much anyway...
I guess this is a "bug" for EU users... like always >:(

I'm having the same issue - it's a fresh install of the 64bit version for
Windows 7. Running as Administrator doesn't change anything.
