Did you use the report button or can you provide the logcat output? I am seeing
a crash related to that in the developer console.

I send a report at some minutes, as a reply to your post. Attached is the
related logcatreport

Thanks for the report. Is that a genuine Samsung device? Or are you running
some custom ROM? The error indicates that storage framework on the device is
broken
(https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/providers/document-provider.html).
As a workaround you can email/download/... the profile and open that file. That
should directly start the import dialog without using the file select dialog.

No, its an Android HDMI-Stick. What i wonder about is, that it´s really full
functional. Tried the import of several media in different apps, copied, viewed
and listend to a lot of stuff. Just got that error here.
The workaround did work. No more force close on that way.

A lot of apps still roll their own file chooser/picker.

Do you have an idea, which app i could try, which uses the new 4.4 storage
framework?

For example GOogle Drive, the Upload button should use the system file provider.
Also Settings -> Security -> Install from storage (guessing enlgish title here)

Closing the bug since it is not a bug of the app but in the ROM.
