My opinion is that the following issues are related to or are duplicates of
this issue:
Issue 13: "An error occurred" -- Could not open location; you might not have
permission to open the file.
Issue 15: 搜索功能出错
Issue 16: 2010年4月14日totem-pps再次不能播放。
Issue 19: [pps vod]StopFile: Url Invalid?
Issue 20: 菜单方式能否改变更方便的方式
Issue 21: terminal output/user not allow
Issue 22: Category list doesn't work
I think this issue has the most detailed description of the error. I hope the
error will be fixed soon because it occured long time ago in April. Until it is
fixed totem-pps is useless :-( .
Nevertheless many thanks to the developer for creating totem-pps.

This is nothing the developer can influence, is it? Any other workaround or
alternatives?
TIA

@zombie3656: Possibly a developer with skills in assembler, reverse engineering
and ELF (Executable and Linking Format) can modify the file
"libppsvodnet.so.0.1.940". In this ELF-file the message "[ppsvod]User not
allowed" is located. It is the equivalent to the file "vodnet.dll" in the
windows version of PPStream. If you have these skills or you know someone who
has it please go on ;-) .
Regarding alternatives for totem-pps - there is nothing out there except
outdated stuff which is not working.

Issue 24: could not read from resource

By the way, the company PPStream has discontinued the development of the
Linux-version of the program. So somebody has to modify the file
"libppsvodnet.so.0.1.940" to make PPStream functional again. I mentioned it
already in a comment above. Volunteers please step forward ;-) .

I don't know how he did it, but with
totem-pps-0.0.19.6.tar.gz
gst-plugins-pps-0.0.18.1.tar.gz
from 16.11.2010 totem-pps is working again at the moment.
