Summer of Code #421

We should come up with some Google Summer of Code projects and put in an application. If next year's schedule follow's this year's, they would be due in January.

Anyone have any ideas for this? Applications are due February 5.

One idea is our author ambiguity resolution project. I am working on this with some high school students so it may be addressed by this summer, but there will likely be work left to do or further details to handle.

Hi Matt, all:

I know a fellow faculty member who has worked with GSoC students before. They told me it was a significant amount of overhead and that if you have funds (or could avail yourself to them via the ACL Exec) that it might be worthwhile to make a case for a dedicated local intern. The overhead of the proposal, vetting candidates and supervising them may not be worth the effort.

The criteria for GSoC is also that the applicant must be a sizeable OSS project with a significant amount of exposure. I think the Anthology generally meets these criteria but it may be a close call for the reviewers of the organization application.

If others on the team have mentored GSoC students, I'd love to have your feedback to get more data points.

Cheers,

Min
