COLING 1976 has disappeared #745

The current anthology doesn't have a listing for COLING 1976, but a PDF of the preprints as published in the American Journal of Computational Linguistics Microfiche 48 used to be in the anthology.

The Wayback Machine still has the PDF: https://web.archive.org/web/20180628032946/https://www.aclweb.org/anthology/J79-1048/

It looks like the PDF was improperly filed under J79.

Also, in 1976 the journal Statistical Methods in Linguistics published versions of at least some of the COLING 1976 papers. My university library has a copy.

I would suggest posting the above PDF under COLING 1976, and I think we should consider posting the versions from SMiL 1976 as well.

It’s at https://www.aclweb.org/anthology/J76-2007/ now after the remembering. But maybe it should be under C76 also.

@davidweichiang, thanks. I do think it would be good to have it linked on the front page under COLING 76. Are there any other COLING proceedings that are in the anthology as journal articles but not linked as COLING?

davidweichiang commented 4 years ago

@mjpost What mechanism could we use to do a link like this? One way would simply be to archive the PDF twice. (Edited: This already happens with TINLAP, which is T78 and also in J78.)

I don't see any other COLINGs. It's possible that lists of titles or short abstracts could be embedded in the FINITE STRING. But the full proceedings of ACL 1975 are in J75.

ETA: Seems like we're also missing COLING 1971 and 1978.

davidweichiang commented 4 years ago

We'd need to get permission to post the papers from SMiL, right?

mbollmann commented 4 years ago

Add it to data/yaml/venues_joint_map.yaml?

davidweichiang commented 4 years ago

Does venues_joint_map.yaml let you map a whole conference (C76) to just one "paper" (J76-2007)?

mbollmann commented 4 years ago

Argh, I see. In that case I believe the only "clean" way to handle this would be to give this entry its own volume-level ID, i.e. rename to something like J76-3001. (Then add J76-3: COLING to the joint venue map.)

davidweichiang commented 4 years ago

Hm, yes, but the J76 volumes were chosen to align with the issues of the journal, so renumbering isn't that clean either.
