\thanks and \Thanks are broken #26

\thanks is broken:

The style file provides \Thanks, which is undocumented and also doesn't look good:

Maybe the asterisk was originally overlapped so that in John Doe\thanks{Lorem Ipsum}, the star would appear over the comma instead of creating an ugly space. If that's still desired, then \Thanks should be fixed and documented.
