Two sides looking to bounce back from frustrating EPL defeats last weekend face off at Stamford Bridge on Sunday as Chelsea host Newcastle.

The Blues tasted domestic defeat for the first time since August last weekend in their 2-1 reversal at Liverpool but look well-placed to get back to winning ways this afternoon.

Enzo Maresca's side did claim a victory in Europe in midweek with a 4-1 win over Panathinaikos in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday night in Greece.

Chelsea have 14 points from their first eight Premier League fixtures and will be determined to close the gap on the top four spots with a victory over Newcastle this weekend.

Newcastle are two points behind Chelsea in the top-flight standings and are without a win in any of their last four Premier League fixtures with draws against Everton and Manchester City with defeats to Fulham and Brighton.

Chelsea's bright run of seven games unbeaten in all competitions was brought to an end by a narrow 2-1 defeat to league leader Liverpool last Sunday. Enzo Maresca's men responded well with a convincing 1-4 against Panathinaikos in the Europa Conference League, and a win here against one of their rivals' Champions League qualification would see them climb to fourth.

There's a similar incentive for Eddie Howe's Newcastle, who could leapfrog Chelsea into seventh with a win today in west London. Any such victory would need to see an improvement from the Magpies frontline, with the visitors failing to score in their last two matches.

Chelsea vs. Newcastle on Sunday, Oct. 27 at Stamford Bridge, with kickoff set for 2 p.m. GMT local time, making it a 10 a.m. ET or 7 a.m. PT start in the U.S. and Canada and a 1 a.m. AEDT kickoff in Australia in the early hours of Monday morning. The Blues are coming off a stunning win in the Conference League while Newcastle suffered a league defeat against Brighton. Sitting at the sixth in the table, Chelsea face struggling Newcastle to eye three points. Enzo Maresca’s side enters the home game with a 4-1 over Panathinaikos in the Conference League.

Chelsea have enjoyed a strong start to the season, and after a couple of league campaigns dominated by off-pitch drama and a rapidly expanding locker room, look to be finding some consistency. However, they are now two EPL games without a win following a draw with Nottm Forest and a defeat to Liverpool so a quick bounceback is needed. Newcastle also need to return to winning ways as they are three without a win, but considering their historic record when traveling down to West London, the Toon Army may have to wait a while longer yet.

Enzo Maresca and his side bounced back from their heart-breaking 2-1 defeat against Chelsea by comfortably defeating Panathinaikos 4-1 in the Conference League. Meanwhile, Newcastle United proved to be their own worst enemy in a 1-0 loss at home to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, failing to capitalize on the dominance and large chunk of possession.

For Newcastle to secure a victory against Chelsea in their Premier League clash on Sunday, they will need to overcome a daunting Stamford Bridge curse. Historically, the Magpies have managed to win just once in 29 attempts at this venue in the league, which certainly doesn't paint an optimistic picture for their supporters. Eddie Howe’s side have lost only one game out of the last four against Chelsea. Newcastle had the upper hand against the Blues in the last two seasons. Victory on Sunday may open the door for Newcastle as they will meet Chelsea again in the EFL Cup three days later.

Chelsea has 14 points and enters the day seventh on the table while Newcastle is in 12th with 12 points. Both squads are looking to bounce back from defeats suffered last week, the second on the season for each club. AJOV
