F1 rolls around to Mexico City next as the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez plays host to the Mexican Grand Prix and round 20 of the 2024 season.

Charles Leclerc won an action-packed US Grand Prix on Sunday, leading home a Ferrari one-two on a memorable day for the Scuderia in Austin. As a result, Norris will be no doubt keen to start making up some ground - and quickly - starting today in Mexico City. The McLaren star will start P3, behind Verstappen in P2.

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes endured a nightmare weekend in Texas and will be looking to bounce back this weekend. Verstappen has a terrific record in Mexico, winning five of the last six races.

Max Verstappen strengthened his lead in the race for the drivers' championship after securing a podium finish at the United States Grand Prix. On the other hand, Lando Norris, his main competitor, came in fourth, and Charles Leclerc of Ferrari led a 1-2 finish in Austin.

Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton did not have a very good time in Texas and will be eager to make a comeback in Mexican GP. As far Verstappen is concerned, he boasts of a sublime record at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez where he has won five of his last six races.

“Very happy and great couple of laps, a lot of times around Mexico you always have a feeling you cannot put a lap together and it’s extremely difficult,” Sainz said. “Honestly, my two laps were pretty much identical, almost perfect. Very happy because that’s not normally the case around Mexico with how tricky it is.”

Three-time defending champion Max Verstappen, who had an engine change Saturday, qualified second for Red Bull. Verstappen is a five-time winner in Mexico City.

Lando Norris of McLaren, who is chasing Verstappen for the driver championship, qualified third and was followed by Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, who won the United States Grand Prix last week.

Mercedes drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton qualified fifth and sixth, while Kevin Magnussen of Haas was seventh. Pierre Gasly of Alpine, Alex Albon of Williams and Nico Hülkenberg of Haas rounded out the top 10. The main talking point was the highly contentious battle between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, with the McLaren driver coming off second-best and demoted to fourth after a penalty. Alongside his sprint race victory, it means Verstappen extended his lead to Norris in the world championship to 57 points with five rounds remaining.

Despite what could be seen as a slip-up in the US GP, Verstappen continues to lead the Drivers' Standings with 354 points while Norris occupies the second place with 297 points. Leclerc is at the third place with 275 points.

Last time out, Ferrari achieved a stunning one-two finish at the United States Grand Prix, putting the team firmly back into the conversation when it comes to the top end of the constructors' standings. The team will be hoping to capitalise on this further after Carlos Sainz's stunning pole lap on Saturday.

Elsewhere, in the drivers' championship, Max Verstappen extended his lead over Lando Norris in Austin, with the McLaren man now facing a 57-point deficit with just five grands prix to go.

As a result, Norris will be no doubt keen to start making up some ground - and quickly - starting today in Mexico City. The McLaren star will start P3, behind Verstappen in P2.
