traces makes machine sad #14

amy's machine is a little old but still runs well except when its running traces then it runs very badly It doesn't gobble the cpu... but makes applications grind to a halt alas the beach ball spinner of death! slightly better if amy turns off screenshots (but only a little)

further investigation suggests that the issue may be related to url scraping. Performance is most severely impacted when browsing in chrome with multiple (read: 3-5 windows w/ 10-20 tabs each)
