Installation problem - Program does not get installed. #6

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. I tried to install the program on my Vista OS pc, however at the end it
says "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program
run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support
personnel or package vendor. Once i click Ok, it rolls back without
completing the installation.
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
As mentioned above.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Google Sitemap generator (Beta)

Please provide any additional information below.

Tried to run the Sitemap generator but got the message "The installer was
interrupted
before Google Sitemap Generator (Beta) could be installed. You need to restart
the
installer to try again." Which I did a couple of times to the same result.

I am encountering a problem downloading the sitemap generator beta. I start the
download, then I'm prompted to allow the program and at the very end of the
installation process I get the error message "failed to load setting file" I
am
brand new to blogging so I apologize if this is a stupid question. I love all
of
Googles products so would prefer to use this generator. By the way I am tring
to use
the Windows version download. Don't know if this matter, but I use Windows
Vista
64bit and IE8.

I have the exact same problem.

But if i try to restart the installation it say that the .url files are locked.
If i go to programfiles... and try to remove the previous installed files they
are
locked and can not be removed without rebooting the server.

I run Win 2003 server and IIS 6.
With PHP and ModRewrite.

Now if i let the server bee for some time i get a popup message saying the
sitemapservice.exe has stoped working.
If i look under service there is no service named sitemapservice...

The log file looks like this:

2009-06-10T16:50:15Z: [C:\Program Files\Google\Google Sitemap
Generator\\sitesettings.xml] is used as application settings.
2009-06-10T16:50:15Z: Failed to load setting file (C:\Program

You need to install the *.msi package as an admin.

here is the command: "msiexec /a sitemap_win-beta1-20090225.msi"

that will do it.

We get exactly the same problem as aforementioned. We tried the admin
installation
tip as provided in comment 14. It seemed to install, no errors were given. No
sign of
the application being installed though. So we had to give it up as a lost cause
:-(

1º Copiar el archivo bajado a la raiz del disco duro "c:"
2º inicio/ejecutar/ "cmd" para ir a consola de Windows.
3º ejecutar "msiexec / a sitemap_win-beta1-20090225.msi"
4º se abrirá el formulario de instalación.

hello i installed sucessfully in win 7,
1st as told before check the version of iis is 5 or greater, remember by
default iis will be disabled in win7, u can install it by going to
controlpanel>Programs>Programs and features, there u can find "turn Windows
features on or off" in the left side, click it. wait some time to load, thn
tick all the items labelled iis.
iis installation sucessfully done.

Then right click on the sitemap installation file (*.msi) you downloaded, change
the compactibility to older windows
Right click>Properties>Compactibility> Tick "Run this program in compactibility
for" and select "previous version of windows"

Done...

Ok it installs and everything but when it goes on to produce sitemap. It
simply dies. my OS = Windows 7 Ultimate.
6GB RAM
Athlon 64 dual core 2.9 Ghz
I solved installation issues by doing the following :

1. Right click on the file and select 'Troubleshoot compatibility'
2. Save the changes
3. Run the file.
and this is here when it goes on to produce sitemap. The program simply dies.

My installation was crashing too. And then I tried using the first of the 3
options (instead on the second):

1- To defer submission of submitting Sitemaps, you can accept the default
value. In the Admin Console, you'll be able to configure and test Sitemaps
before submitting them.
2- To start automatic submission now, you can choose First installation. Start
with automatic submission enabled.
3- If you are reinstalling, you have an additional option, Use the old
automatic submission settings. This option reinstates the settings that were in
effect when you uninstalled and enables you to retain per-site configurations.

And it finally worked!
