This is nothing but a copy/paste of the latest Bosch library code from here:
https://github.com/BoschSensortec/BME68x-Sensor-API
which includes updates to work with the BME688. All of the needed changes are buried in that code, so no need to update the Adafruit_BME680 files.
Tested with Itsy M4 and BME688 on I2C running bme680test sketch:
