Still getting used to the flow of pull request -> commit -> merge. I assume I should have just committed and let you review the changes before merging again?

No worries. I forgot to mention, waiting for my review or approval is not necessary, you can merge things in to keep your main branch up2date (for this project where it's just you and me, in a real developer team setting there will be more stricter requirements).
