Monetizing HIGGS #2

@adamhynek, are you the original creator of HIGGS for Skyrim? A lot of ppl seem to be asking about it for Fallout 4 (including me). Is it an arduous project to undertake? I was thinking if you monetize it in some way (even just $5), maybe you could get a good sum out of it. I noticed that on Nexus Skyrim HIGGS has over 300k unique downloads. So over the course of a few years I would think it would net you a solid 1.5 million. For the immersion it offers, $5 is very worth it.

Skyrim with HIGGS and PLANCK is literally the most immersive VR game I've played. Now this has not really been done for an open world shooter (like Fallout 4). But I'd be willing to bet it would be just as popular.

Is there a reason you haven't dived into it with Fallout? What HIGGS has done for Skyrim is just revolutionary (also makes little damn sense that game makers incorporate features like this. It's literally what VR is for).

I would definitely pay for a mod like that. Especially after having experienced skyrim higgs. So kind of a good thing the skyrim mod is free. Good advertising. Also PLANCK too. It seems you're the creator as well? Fallout 4 only has FRIK

Yes, I am the original create of higgs and planck. I do not plan to port them to fallout 4 because it would be a tremendous amount of work, and my time is already spread pretty thin doing development on my existing mods including higgs and planck. If I were to start doing work on fallout 4, I wouldn't have any time to do work on skyrim anymore. It would also involve basically re-doing everything that I've already done, but for a different game, and I'm not very interested in re-treading ground I've already tread. I'd rather spend my time iterating and creating new things that I haven't done before. Hopefully you understand.

I'm aware I could make more money if I charged for my mods, but I'd rather not charge money as that would come with an expectation of support, and I'd like to keep this as a hobby that I can pick up and put down without any expectations from others, even if I might have expectations of myself.

I also don't think the userbase of fallout 4 vr is anywhere near as big as skyrim vr's.

What more support does PLANCK/HIGGS on skyrim need?  Or is it just maintenance for updates that come along?  The bar on those mods was already made really high.As far as treading a similar path by doing fallout, I can understand that.  User base for FO4 might be 1/4 or 1/5 of skyrim. In terms of expectation of support, would just need to work and not crash the game say 95% of the time.  Like if it got to the point of where your skyrim mods are now, support can drop off completely (assuming no FO4 steam updates that totally break it… but I hope bethesda isn’t still rolling updates for such an old game).  Such a small amount with little expectation of future support is worth it to me.  Most ppl I think would be willing to lose such a small amount to such a great thing.  But like you said, I do understand you not wanting to repeat a similar feature for another game.  Skyrim VR with your mods has been the most immersive vr game.  Currently though, there’s nothing with that immersion for an RPG shooter.  In my mind, it’s one of the biggest things missing in vr.  Reddit threads have ppl hoping that starfield will end up getting a mod (or maybe from devs) for planck/higgs/vrik immersion.I haven’t really done any work modding community wise.  Only really in the autonomous vehicle space 👀Regards,GavinOn Feb 21, 2024, at 11:14 PM, Adam Hynek @.***> wrote: Yes, I am the original create of higgs and planck.
