Just wondering if this is still being supported -- seems like a really cool idea, but I'm not able to tell what's being used for the actual voice recognition. Additional, after just cloning and running meteor, that part seemed non-functional. I don't need to de-meteorize if just running locally, correct?

adankoff commented 9 years ago

I haven't had a chance to work on it for a while. Just started a new job last Monday. Will take a look tonight to get it functional again at least. Wasn't really expecting anyone to have any interest in it honestly... Noticing my readme even has my test db access info in it.

It uses the webspeech api, which is a future W3C candidate. It's currently implemented in only a few browsers though, namely google chrome.

W3C candidate documentation: https://dvcs.w3.org/hg/speech-api/raw-file/tip/speechapi.html

Google's demo of the API: https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/demos/speech.html

I'll try deploying to modulus this evening and see where I get. If you could just confirm it's working on your end, that'd be much appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry... won't be able to check until later tonight... sort of swamped right now. Will drop a comment as soon as possible though.

Geez, why is modulus so jank? See on-going thread:

Ok, was testing it now and it seems to be working. Just pull down the project and use "meteor" and it launches. You shouldn't need to de-meteorize on local (I'm not even sure you still need it with Modulus).

Hey, thanks again. I'll check this later today. I spun up the project yesterday and wasn't able to get any interaction with the speech recognition.. although the "use device" warning did pop up, and something appeared to be happening. Probably i'm just doing something wrong, or it needs a collection to match text patterns to or something.

adankoff commented 9 years ago

Shouldn't need any collections. The text is sent to google through chrome, and then the results are sent back. Do you get the start button and it boots up at least after you run "meteor"?
