Alphabet scrolling with '-' and'+' #461

Using r304-222 now.
My question is simple.
What happened to the alphabet scrolling with '-' and'+' feature?
Was this removed? It is sooo handy. Without it it is so cumbersome to find a 
game. 
Peoples thoughts?
