it was really interesting to pick up convex! Disclaimer, I don't have a wide breadth of experience with different db technologies, so not a lot of things for me to compare it to. Here are some pros and cons I noticed when using convex:
Pros:
- great nextjs integration - really seamlessly integrated with the app, cool that I could write queries in js/ts
- Calling the api like client -> db is a lot better than client -> server -> db if I used postgres or something like that
- Solid gui for managing the db, creating / deleting records was easy
Cons:
- better query documentation might have helped - it wasn't obvious how to write more complex queries in convex, maybe more examples or some sql query -> convex query mappings would have helped
- Clerk integration not obvious, but I maybe didn't have time to do this fully. I think having more "guides" in the docs might be helpful
- I think in generally having more flushed out examples in the docs could be helpful, or links to example convex api's?
An ambitious goal for yall would be to have a chatbot that QA's over docs, or is trained on the convex docs
All in all great product, interested in seeing how convex grows!
