Custom Metadata Panel stops working in AI 25.4.1 on MacOS

Description Custom Metadata Panel loads in AI, but throws an error when a user opens any file in Illustrator 25.4.1. The error takes the form of: Get - /path-to-file/filename.ai:http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/:MetadataDate - IOError: File or folder does not exist The error is caused by the absence of the AdobeXMPScript.framework in the package contents.

Steps to reproduce

• Open AI 25.4.1 on Mac
• Open any document in AI
• Open Custom Metadata Panel
• Error appears

Workarounds NOTE: This is an unsupported workaround which has no guarantee it will work for all users.

• Install Illustrator 24.3.1 on the same machine as AI 25.4.1
• Navigate to /Applications/Adobe Illustrator 2020
• Select Adobe Illustrator 2020
• Right-click and choose Show Package Contents
• Navigate to /Contents/Frameworks
• Select the AdobeXMPScript.framework folder
• Copy
• Navigate to /Applications/Adobe Illustrator 2021
• Select Adobe Illustrator 2021
• Right-click and choose Show Package Contents
• Navigate to /Contents/Frameworks
• Paste

Environment

• OS type and version: Supported MacOS versions for AI 25.x.x
• Extension version:AI 25.4.1

Illustrator team plans to restore XMP scripting in the October 2021 release. We will close this issue once that release drops.

This issue is now resolved with the release of AI 25.4.5, which is the Long Term Supported version of AI CC 2021.
