Hmm, it seems that Adobe has to sacrifice some other glyphs to cover those glyphs since all 65,536 glyph spaces in OpenType has already been used....
Yes, we're full. While it would be nice to accommodate #1, it really is out of scope of this project. Still, I appreciate the suggestion. #2 is somewhat of a can of worms, because in order to properly support ROK's Inmyeongnyong Hanja, several more glyphs for existing characters (code points) will require KR-specific forms which will increase the number of additional glyphs well beyond the 37 suggested. Given that typical Korean fonts that include hanja support only those in KS X 1001 (4,620 unique hanja, but 4,888 in total), and a very small number additional support those in KS X 1002 (2,856), we're already going well above the call of duty in the current Source Han Sans glyph set.
Just out of curiosity, does ROK publish the actual code points for the Inmyeongnyong Hanja characters or only their shapes. Due to unification issues, it'd be prudent for ROK to explicitly specify code points, otherwise the likelihood of assigning the wrong code point is high for some characters.
I am closing this issue, but I am also pleased to have the record of it here.
Oh, if it is already using all 65536 glyphs, then I am withdrawing this suggestion.
I think ROK is only giving the shapes, especially for non-BMP characters. I found some HWP files, but they are using images for non-BMP characters; I couldn't find any documents that uses actual characters (instead of images) for non-BMP characters.
I think adding support for these glyphs DOES make Source Han Sans a more 'powerful' and 'unique' font, since these glyphs are not found in most fonts.
In my opinion, adding either traditional or modern KouKi glyphs has similar effects.
Since the space is full, you can try making a PR, and providing glyphs like this in some other font(s) named, e.g. Source Han Sans Supp, although I don't know if this will be approved.
Well, at least this works with fallbacks, right?
