Consolidation of Character/Glyph Addition Suggestions #180

Closed kenlunde closed 5 years ago

kenlunde commented 7 years ago

The following table shows the glyph additions that are planned for the Version 2.000 update, and does not yet include those for supporting HKSCS-2016 (though a small number of HK glyph additions are specified so that they are not overlooked, and because they may be outside the scope of HKSCS-2016), and unless otherwise noted, are consolidated from Issue #115 or are from my own notes:

I would like to suggest the addition of 𠊎 U+2028E, the Hakka first-person pronoun.

kenlunde commented 7 years ago

@3NQfgBiMnL: Somewhat related is the observation that U+2028E 𠊎 is suspiciously missing from here, but can be found here. @bobbytung

bobbytung commented 7 years ago

𠊎 U+2028E is frequently used in Hakka.

And I just found I've made a serious mistake. In this chart, section 1 Frequently used Taiwanese characters = section 3 Frequently used Hakka characters. I've patched it.

Now U+2028E can be find in this section.

I have reservations about the following: U+2C1F5 𬇵 ⿰氵⿱正与 四川省乐山市夹江县𬇵城镇 (supposedly a variant of 漹)

U+2C210 𬈐 ⿰氵⿱㓁目 江苏省镇江市丹徒区高桥镇琵琶𬈐村 (supposedly a variant of 㴭)

U+2BA51 𫩑 ⿳一丿口 河南省濮阳市台前县侯庙镇王𫩑村 (second stage simplified form of 面, 台前县 website shows 侯庙镇王面村 instead.)

Also, U+2B821 𫠡 is an error disunified form of 𣎴 (U+233B4), so the glyphs should be aliased.

MingFan617 commented 6 years ago

Of course there are many variants and vulgar forms of place name ideographs. But these ideographs are already encoded and used in the ID system of the Ministry of Public Security of China, so the font support is necessary. These questions is related to internal affairs of People's Republic of China, and should not be raised here.

hfhchan commented 6 years ago

All officially recognized characters in the 3rd level administrative divisions and above have been collected into 《通用規範漢字表》. Officially recognized characters used in lower administrative divisions have not been published in a collective standard.

The Ministry of Public Security collects by far more ideographs than what is considered normative; it is equatable to the Plane 15 of CNS11643, which is also generally not supported by Source Han Sans. The Ministry of Public Security's PUA collection also includes lots of characters in Extension B and above, but are not tagged by the GIDC source reference. Inclusion of a character with a GIDC source identifier is not adequate proof that a character is actually in general use.

That saying, the Ministry of Public Security system displays 肞 as 月叉 (correctly), but the amendment to the official glyphs in the ISO10646 code charts has not yet been updated by China.

  1. Again, These questions is related to internal affairs of People's Republic of China, and should not be raised here.
  2. The 通用規範漢字表 is also related to internal affairs of People's Republic of China, it's a reference to Source Han Sans, but not the only standard. "Generally used" and "officially recognized" are different conceptions. Collect these ideographs is also one of the policies in People's Republic of China, and is not conflict with 通用規範漢字表.
  3. The HKSCS is also equatable to the Plane 15 of CNS11643, but is supported, even many corrupt ideographs -- they are actually used. Whether Plane 15 of CNS11643 is supported or not, is not relevant to these ideographs -- it's not a sufficient or necessary condition.
  4. The aim of adding them to Source Han Sans is to solve the font support problem for these ideographs.
  5. The Ministry of Public Security of China is an authorized department in China. GIDC ideographs are collected by the department, and are generally-used.
  6. Unless you have other better solutions for solving these ideographs, it's no use arguing here.
hfhchan commented 6 years ago

It would be better if the priority of including the selected 38 characters, over the existing 68 characters encoded with the GIDC specifier in ISO10646 and also the thousands of characters in Extension B - F in use by Ministry of Public Security PUA but not tagged as GIDC, could be explained.
