Social Media Tab in Page properties removed #2191

Why was the Social Media Tab in Page properties removed? It was very useful to create OG Tags. But now this feature is missing. Because there is no alternative for OG Tags. So what should we use now?

Here is the commit for removing, but no reason why this is deprecated and what to use now: https://github.com/adobe/aem-core-wcm-components/commit/474dce1aaea7dc508b747805fc429838bb058f31

Any updates on this? Can you please confirm why it is removed?

I raised a ticket towards Adobe, this is what they answered: We have a Jira ticket details, the functionality is deprecated as the Social Sharing components don't seem to be used a lot. Moreover they are not used much by customers, and because the API from these social networks constantly change, making it expensive for us to maintain. Hence, it was removed from the component library. As the alternative, the embed component[0] can be used to some extent. This will need customization.

I think we are missing something here. The Social Media Tab did two things. I agree with you that the sharing stuff is another thing, and I'm not interested in it. What I am talking about are the Basic og:tags https://ogp.me/. They standardized and did not change at all, since years. Thats why they call them basic og tags.

Feel free to check the link.

The tags I mean are: og:title og:description og:type og:url og:image

and they where created Perfectly in Page V2 with the Social Media Tab. And yes the other feature you mentioned with the sharing element I'm not interested in it.

Can you please check the Situation for the Basic og:tags again?

Answer of adobe is, it will not be added for Page V3. Also not a light Variant of it, for the basic OG:Tags. They say it's to complicated to handle it for them. So it will not be implemented for Page V3.

So you have to solve it for yourself. Or maybe call the acs-commons team, if they could create a solution

There is no "acs commons team" ;) Its purely a community effort.
