Hi,
some interesting logs in the Console.app?
2012/9/12 donaldpipowitch notifications@github.com
Hi everybody,
I tried several Sprints from Brackets (11, 12, 13) but I can't open them on Mac OS X 10.7.4. I download the .dmg, open the .dmg and move the .app to my programs directory. If I open the .app the Bracket icon appears in the dock, but the app never opens. If I click on the Bracket icon in the dock the icon simply goes away.
Any ideas?

Hi @donaldpipowitch -- following on @mbaesler's suggestion, can you run Console.app, then try launching the app and seeing if anything shows up in the console? If so, please copy and paste the error here. Thanks.
Also -- note that moving the .dmg to your programs directory will only work with Sprint 13 (and future newer builds). Older builds come as a .zip and its entire folder structure must be left intact for the .app to run.
I have something similar. For Sprint 13 I opened the DMG file and copied the app over to Applications folder. When I start up Brackets all I see is a basic text viewer (no editing) showing me the read me file. There's no UI or no indication of how to get to the UI. Sprint 12 from the zip file works fine.
Console.app doesn't give me anything on starting but when I close Brackets I get this:
2012-09-13 17:14:54.152 Brackets[4957:903] *\ __NSAutoreleaseNoPool(): Object 0x307220 of class NSCFArray autoreleased with no pool in place - just leaking
Actually, sometimes the number here "Brackets[4957:903]" varies. No idea if that's relating to my issue. I'm running OS X 10.6.8.
I got the following, when i try to open the Sprint 13 version:

Thanks a lot for all your help. At least for me Console.app got me on the right track. I got an "posix_spawn(...) permission denied" error and had to call
chmod +x /Applications/Brackets\ Sprint\ 13.app/Contents/MacOS/Brackets
on the terminal.
@talmand - Try holding down the Option key while launching Brackets. You should only need to do this once.
@arthut - Does this happen every time you try to launch? Do you see anything at all or does it immediately crash.
@donaldpipowitch - Needing to chmod is worrisome. I know some people had permission issues with older zipped builds, but this should not be an issue with DMG files. Can you run the app directly from the mounted image? Are you running with Admin rights? Is there anything about your system that is non-standard? (just trying to find something to go on)
@gruehle Yes, it happens every time. I couldn't even see how Brackets look like =(
@gruehle Indeed, holding down the Option key did the trick. Seems there's a simple explanation for this but I'm on a Mac again after a long hiatus. I'm assuming that forces it to open in some sort of fresh start or safe mode type of thing? Thanks.
@gruehle Well, maybe I made some other failures and the problems really only appeared in the zipped builds. =/ But I have admin rights on my Mac.
@arthut Can you tell us what locale is your Mac OS? We do know that Brackets crashes on Chinese OSes, but if you have a locale other than Chinese, then we would like to fix it as well.

@donaldpipowitch -- revisiting this bug from a couple of months ago. Can you let us know if you still have this problem with the Sprint 16 Mac build DMG from https://github.com/adobe/brackets/downloads ? Thanks.
@njx Looks good. No problems with installing Sprint 16!
Great, thanks for the response! Closing.
Sorry to bring this up again, but I have this or a similar issue since Sprint 18. Tried again now with Sprint 20. I get a blank white window and the menu says Brackets and Window, no File and Edit entries. I can't do anything but shut the app down.
I tried all I could find on the troubleshooting page and in this thread here (Terminal, chmod, ...). The Sprint 12 zip works, the .dmg-Files don't.
OS X 10.8.2 and this is what the Terminal spits out:
2013-02-15 01:50:11.305 Brackets Helper EH[6064:707] Unsure about the internals of CFAllocator but going to patch them anyway. If there is a crash inside of CFAllocatorAllocate, please report it at http://crbug.com/117476 . If there is a crash and it is NOT inside of CFAllocatorAllocate, it is NOT RELATED. Are you downloading a Brackets installer from http://download.brackets.io ?
Or are you cloning from github (http://github.com/brackets and http://github.com/brackets-shell) and building yourself? Do not use the .zip files directly from github (they don't download required submodules).
Yes, I downloaded the .dmg-Images from http://download.brackets.io/. Neither Sprint 18 nor 20 worked. I learned about Brackets when Sprint 18 was the most recent, gave up when it didn't work, came back now to give it another try, but still the same problem (see above). But now, I tried to find a solution or hunt the error down - without much succes so far. I just tried the Sprint 12 zip as I read the builds were delivered differently until then and found it to be noteworthy that the "old" Sprint 12 zip worked.
Please open a new issue. I am running Brackets on Mac 10.8, so be sure to specify any system defaults that you have changed.
Ok, once more here, since I found the reason: Comodo Antivirus. When I switch it off, Brackets works as expected.
