I've recently spend a few hours to install vol2bird on multiple Mac and Linux machines (following vol2bird installation instructions, but many details had to be adapted), and I was thinking it would make things easier if there were proper packages available (deb repository for Ubuntu/Debian, MacPorts/ Homebrew for Mac OS) for vol2bird. I'd be interested in investigating that, even if I'm not really experienced with that and it would not be a very high priority task.
A first step would actually be to provide proper packages for its dependencies such as hlhdf and rave (this is why I'm posting there).
First questions are:
Would you be interested in such an effort?
I noticed the "fork of ..." about hlhdf: are there multiple forks of it floating around? Is one specific version more official/supported than the others?
If you've already thought/worked on such a packaging effort: do you expect any specific difficulties? Are there things I should know before I give it a try?
Hmmm, I just noticed the packaging subdirectory in the source tree, so I'm not the first thinking about that. What's the status of this previous effort?
