No SIM card after leaving flight mode #44

This issue does not occur right after the installation of Android 5.1 (p1 or p2) but after some days. I am used to put the phone in flight mode at night and put it back to normal the day after. It has worked fine for the last 5 days after my upgrade to p2, but now again when leaving flight mode wifi, bluetooth, ... are restored and working but network connectivity (data but also calls) is not working. The icon "no sim card detected" is displayed. I think this is something that was working on 5.0, could it be related to dual SIM support for example ?

Maybe this is also a AOSP bug, but I did not find an entry in the bug tracker for that.

I can provide some logs if needed, please just ask :)

This is a known issue: probably a race between the framework and ril. I'll have a look at it when i'm really bored - but there is an easy workaround: just restart the baseband after leaving flight-mode and the modem should come back online within a few seconds

Well, i was already bored and hacked something up: Could you give this build a try?: https://mega.co.nz/#!ypkglRBQ!99PmpH7ksZChx0kR7mOW3BQs2wXrUavwfFELwLSKjHM

(You can always downgrade to p1 or p2 from it if there are any issues)

For sure ! I will flash it tonight and let you know. Maybe I will need some days to report if the fix is working, because this issue occurs randomly.

The build is installed and for the time being there is no issue after leaving flight-mode. I will update this issue in a few days to confirm if the problem is fixed.

Sorry but this morning again I had this "no sim found" failure. Restarting baseband worked well, as you suggested.

adrian-bl commented 9 years ago

That's too bad - but the whole SIM stuff seems to be a race condition hell.

I'll let it be as it is for now as Sony is supposed to release Android 5.0 for the Xperia Z in Q2 2015, so the new ril-blobs may fix the issue.

Ok. I noticed an improvement anyway, as the network icon is blinking when leaving flight mode. Most of the time I get a working network connectivity but sometimes not. So the fix is sadly not able to overcome this issue.
