A few ideas:

Promote featured games, game jam winners
Filter by author / category / programming language
Play a gameplay video on screenshot mouse hover
Cart submissions can include a README.md that gets rendered under the game, for explaining controls and any other info by the author

Might be worth adding a release date field to the metadata, both for sorting and info.
