Sync Clippings Helper does not work on Firefox builds packaged with Snap or Flatpak

There is a known limitation with Firefox distributed with Ubuntu 22.04 and Fedora 40; both use Snap and Flatpak, respectively, to distribute software packages. Firefox distributed using these package managers is unable to connect to native messaging apps due to security restrictions.

Workaround: Download Firefox builds from the Mozilla website[1], and run those instead.

Symptom of this issue: on Ubuntu 22.04, an error occurs when clicking "Turn On Sync" in extension preferences:
