Missing word from the One Syllable Word drill on Steno Jig: "cad"
It would be KAD
, right?
Added, thanks.
Missing desperate
.
As noted in #2 (sorry for opening a silly PR), missing TKAB for dab
, found on short-and-long-A drills.
Likely #
-typo: "Austere" is 5US/TAOER
, would expect AUS/TAOER
Suggestion: Remove SEUFPL
for "schism," makes writing "symphony" less strange (seeing "schism" threw me off while trying to stroke SEUFPL/TPHEU
)
Suggestion: TA/TAOD
for "tattooed"
'bald' is not present. Perhaps change balled to PWA*ULD
, and set bald to PWAULD
. It appears bald is much more commonly used than balled in general usage.
Added, thanks.
Suggest changing "teem/team" from TAOEPL/TAO*EPL
to TAOEPL/TAEPL
to be more consistent with "ee/ea" pairs like "reed/read" and "steel/steal".
Also, "salmon" is missing.
@aesulus A bit hesitant with "team" and "teem" since "team" is a lot more frequent (and this is just what I'm used to from using main.json for a year). I'll think it over but chances are I will probably incorporate this change.
"WhatsApp" is missing, but I'm not sure what strokes should be used. Maybe #WHAT/SAP
?
Edit: another one that is missing is "Messenger".
I think there is no stroke in the dictionary for @, is there?
@mhmdanas Thanks, added.
I should mention that the only translation I have added for the at symbol is `"KWRA*T": "@{^}" . If you have other spacing or capitalization requirements, I would recommend using https://github.com/EPLHREU/emily-symbols .
Hmm, I imagined it to be used more for email addresses, so {^}@{^}
. I think that's reasonable to add to the dictionary too. What do you think?
Edit: I also have yet another suggestion to make: "todo." By the way, I'm probably going to have a whole lot of these suggestions, so is it fine if I open a PR that adds my suggestions every once in a while, so as not spam this thread?
@mhmdanas Oh, you are right. I don't write a lot of email addresses with steno, only mentions such as on GitHub or Discord so @(^}
was what made sense to me. A*T
is available so I can add that one.
I really don't mind you continuing your suggestions here especially as I'm constantly adding entries on my end. I'm weary of merging PR's since I get the feeling there can be a lot of conflicts and fixing them would be more work than just checking back here whenever I get a notification (I'm not too experienced with git). Also there might be certain entries I wouldn't want to add so I think keeping everything in this thread is fine for now.
hi,2w I can't type "2" : #T by using lapwing-base dictionary. Thanks
@phamlan83 The conventional steno number system isn't used in Lapwing. Instead it uses a right hand number pad as described here: https://github.com/aerickt/steno-dictionaries#rh-numpadjson
@aerickt Got it. Thanks

I don't do that too often either, but sometimes you have to type an email address you were given on paper.

Sure, that's okay with me, but nobody blame me if I spam the thread! ;)
Missing words:
"clumsy" looks like a misentry. It's currently included as KPHRULS/KWREU
, but should probably be KHRUPLS/KWREU
or KHRUPL/SEU
instead.
@Benjamin-L Thanks, I had seen your message on Discord yesterday and had fixed it on my version already.
Missing words:
(That's it this time)
@mhmdanas Thanks, added.
The translation for TEUS
should probably be changed from "'tis" to "{~|'^}tis", so that capitalization is carried over (I thought that this should be done for "'imself" too, but I'm not sure if it makes sense to write "'Imself` with a capital I since the i is kind of in the middle of the word. Thoughts?).
@mhmdanas Thanks, I thought I had fixed that but it turns out I added it to the wrong dictionary.
What is the stroke (or strokes) for the hash symbol, #? Plover's lookup does not return anything, and I wasn't able to find anything in the dictionary (maybe I didn't look hard enough though). It's also not mentioned anywhere in the Lapwing wiki page.
@mhmdanas I always use Emily's symbols for that. I do have HAERB
defined as #{^}
in my user.json though I don't use it very often. I'm open to suggestions.
HAERB
for #{^}
, and HA*ERB
for {^}#{^}
maybe? (I'm trying to think of an actual use for {^}#
, but nothing comes to mind)
Also, please add "Monkeytype" to the dictionary.
Maybe add SPAEUFS
and SPAEUFS
for "spaces"?
Edit: also PHRAEUFS
and PHRAEUFZ
for "places."
The translation for 3E6 is incorrectly formatted and outputs &70>
onto the screen.
KAP/KHAOE/TPHOE
KAP/KHEU/TPHOE
PHA/SHAOEPB
should be valid for "machine"?I feel like
PHA/SHAOEPB
should be valid for "machine"?
"Long e" spelled with i or y is written with EU
. It's not the most intuitive, but unfortunately I think it would be very difficult to change at this point.
AUG
and/or AU/TKPWUFT
→ august (meaning "impressive, dignified, respected").A/HRAOEUPLT
→ alignment (currently: alignments)PWAOUR
→ bureau works pretty nicely. Then you get PWAOUR/KRAES
for free.-"HOEPL/HREU": "homily",
+"HOPL/HREU": "homily",
I believe this matches pronunciation better and lets HOEPL/HREU be "homely".
Typo: APL/TKPWUS
= ambiguus
→ ambiguous
I think
"TPHRA*PB/TRO/PEUFT": "philanthropist",
"TPHRA*PB/TRO/PEUBG": "philanthropic",
"TPHRA*PB/TROE/PEUFT": "philanthropy",
"TPHRA*PB/TROE/PEUBG": "philanthropic",
should be
"TPHRA*PB/THRO/PEU": "philanthropy",
"TPHRA*PB/THRO/PEUFT": "philanthropist",
"TPHRA*PB/THRO/PEUBG": "philanthropic",
"TPHRA*PB/THROE/PEU": "philanthropy",
"TPHRA*PB/THROE/PEUFT": "philanthropist",
"TPHRA*PB/THROE/PEUBG": "philanthropic",
"PROEUFR": "processor",
"PROEUFRS": "professors",
I think PROEUFRS is wrong and should be PROEFRS.
Any suggestions to
lapwing-base.json
orlapwing-uk-additions.json
can be submitted on this issue as a comment.
