This is taken care of in the version-dirs branch. I think we should try to get that ready instead of adding features here.

BTW, there was a question before about whether or not it should be 1.2 or 1.2.0 - seems you opted for 1.2 in this version.

The Client team has request the 2 digiti major.minor (#.#) for their CI/CD automation.
