This is easy to implement, and I'd be happy to have a go. Do you know what the key/value pairs from OpenStreetMap are for these charging stations, or are the positions derived from elsewhere?
unfortunatelly not. openchargemap lists many plain electric outlets (230V up to 16A) , which would be fine for starters. i have no idea what is used to re-charge electric car - but i guess standard is three phase current outlet, so next step would be 'three phase' yes or no. three phase outlet can be used for single phase devices with adapter - so i see this just as extension.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charging_station this provides bit of clarification and icon. i think 'mode1' is just total standard from which one can work up
Hi, I'm the lead developer of openchargemap.org - there is no single standard for electric vehicle charging however there are common ones (Domestic Socket, Mennekes, J1772 and CHAdeMO) and all vehicles can use a basic domestic socket if nothing better is available. In the openchargemap data the max power level (1 to 3, v.slow to v.fast) at a location is currently determined by enumerating the connections list available at the location and getting the highest LevelID. If you can summarize facilities at a location as text that would be enough for most owners to work out if the location is relevant or not (depends on their vehicle).
chrisc404 - thanks for the info.
Looking at the API, it seems easy to extract data from OpenChargeMap.
From the following data, what would be useful to an electric vehicle driver? http://openchargemap.org/api/service.ashx?output=xml&countrycode=GB&maxresults=100. I presume all of it!?
I think there was another ticket that focus on charging station, well anyway.
The idea sounds good to me, but for consistency reasons, I would suggest to make use of OpenStreetMap data again (but maybe integrate OCM as third party provider). They offer already a feature for that topic: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Charging_station that seems to be already in good use 1.
As this is (IMHO) a somewhat new feature, that has to be finetuned with other aspects as eco-routing and more detailed vehicle profiles (what kind of sockets are supported etc.), I will schedule it for the next major release.
