I am suggesting a new OSD type "battery_status". There are some platforms where Navit runs full-screen, so it hides the normal battery indicator leaving the user without information about the current battery status. On lots of platforms this information can be obtained easily. Maybe configuration parameters can be added like color levels (green-yellow-red), and a minimum level, to hide the OSD element above (eg. while the battery is above 40% the icon could be hidden, so that it doesn't bother the user, but below 40% it should appear to warn the user that s/he should charge the device).

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, I couldn't find it anywhere.

Thank you for submitting this request. Indeed I have the same feeling and this problem appears on a lot of platforms (wince, openpandora, ...).

Currently we have a lot of stuff todo to get back to a stable codebase (0.5.2), so I just can schedule it for the next major release (0.6) as I guess we need to add a lot of platform specific codes to get the charging/battery information on the different OSes.
