@aesaae, please add information as you ruminate on what needs to be done & what is needed. I've used my limited understanding of the particular circumstances of your project & added a line to some of the topics to get you started. It might be helpful to try and answer these questions:
1) What is the problem that you want to address (with a computerised system)?
2) What purpose will this system serve? What must it do?
3) Who will be the users of the system?
4) What will the individual users want from the system? Will they all want the same thing? What will be the usage pattern?
5) Is the data sensitive?
6) How will the system be administered? Who will be responsible for it?
7) What are your resources (time & £)?
Problems
Data obtained from wind tunnel experiments is mismanaged i.e. lacks metadata, is stored in many different locations, is not easily accessible and/or reusable.
A great deal of information is lost after each experiment is completed i.e. why the experiment was carried out, who did it, etc.

Ensure that data from all experiments is stored correctly.
Ensure that data from all experiments is clearly annotated (metadata).
Enable easy & efficient data reuse & sharing!
Because of the above, create and/or increase opportunities for collaboration.
Put in place effective data management to support publications.
Scope
This project will apply to all experiments carried out in the UoB windtunnels & at the UWE flight test arena
