Multi-finger strumming #1

From Pestington at Reddit:

are there plans to support multiple fingers to strum? I would guess if there were, it might be more ergonomic to have the strings at a 45 degree angle, perhaps.

From mptp at Reddit:

With the ability for more melodic stuff, I agree with /u/Pestington - multifinger strumming would be great. Even just being able to use your index and ring fingers would make way faster melodies possible.

From @zachkinstner on Reddit:

Multiple fingers: It's possible, and given the app's internal structure, I could probably add it without too much effort. I think it would probably lead to a lot of accidental strums, however. If you're trying to quickly play something with one finger, and sometimes moving your entire hand past the strings, I think it would be difficult to keep the other finger out of the way.

From Timothy Armstrong at YouTube:

May I ask if it detects thumbs also? I would love to attempt 'Nothing else matters' :)

@zachkinstner response:

There have been a couple "multi-finger" requests [...], so I might try it. I'm not sure if it will work, though. When you strum in the forward direction, you usually need to bring your finger back through in the backward direction (or else, circle all the way around the strings). It's not the "pluck" motion that you use on a real guitar. So... it could get confusing to keep track of additional strumming fingers.

When switching into a multi-finger mode, I might disable the strumming events when the finger is moving in the back-to-front direction. This would allow you to "reset" your finger (by bringing it in front of the strings) without generating an unwanted note.

This might make the strings feel more like push-buttons, rather than something that will ring whenever you move past it. I may need to change the string design in this mode to accommodate the different interaction style.

You gonna implement tracking for several fingers? That would be a huge hurdle but would also raise the skill ceiling (and thus professional interest) a lot more.
