Troubleshooting guide? #6

I just got done with a marathon of soldering only to plug it in and not have any response from the shield.

Are there typical things to check or debug?

afch commented 6 years ago

Typical problem is in power adapter. Check voltage at test points: TP1 - must be 12-15 Volts TP3 - must be 5 Volts TP4 - must be 170-190 Volts

Ah, you're right. The voltage is low on those touch points. Is the USB power draw on the arduino mega not sufficient to power the shield? Will I need the power adapter for the mega?

afch commented 6 years ago

Yes, it will work only with external power adapter 12-15 Volts, 1 (or more) Ampere.

Hrm, I've got a 12V/1A power adapter and I'm seeing the following:

TP1 - 11.9v TP3 - 1.06v TP4 - 0.5v

I should also note that I'm able to see the serial logs for the display test and on the first bootup with re-flashing the .ino, I did "hear" the musical theme play (albeit very quietly).

Subsequent unplugs have not re-prompted the musical tune however.

Serial logs show that the menu buttons are indeed working.

Sorry for delay with answer. With good quality 12 Volts adapter, you must get about 11.2 Volts on TP1!!! I think than You need to replace your adapter.
