After further deliberation with Eduardo, it is suggested that we use GPL v3 for the code.
For documention we use GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL)
Eduardo will author an example banner that we can then use as a header to our source files.

I propose that we license the code that's written by ourselves be licensed under a Mozilla Public license.
That would then allow others to modify and redistribute our code and disallow them removing the license & copyright text, so that modified works are in turn modifiable and redistributable.
