Typos, some shortenings #1

I took a quick spin through the code to get an idea of how it works. On the way I saw a few typos in comments and one or two places where we have made some shortenings in Jena that could be applied here, just thought I'd send them along.

Thanks! The code forked a while ago so Jena shortenings will not have been picked up.
