Chemical Request #31

Open bethanyriggle opened 1 year ago

bethanyriggle commented 1 year ago

The following chemical amounts will need to be requested from Joanna:

Ethanol: 20 gallons (Vessel 2), 20 gallons (AK Provider) Formalin: 5 gallons (Vesssel 2), 8 gallons (AK Provider) Otolith solution: 15 gallons (both boats)

If some special projects warrant more ethanol, then the number will need to be increased.

Link to chemical requests last year: https://github.com/orgs/afsc-gap-products/projects/3/views/1?filterQuery=sara&pane=issue&itemId=1869194.

It seems the extra 3 gal of formalin on the AKP was for a special project and may no longer be necessary. Will determine the special project allocation this year prior to requesting chemicals from Joanna.

Trying to keep better track of the chemicals provided and how much comes back with this sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QysIprNWErGdnzdvF9gJh_9CPeYzacXy6R35qgtayzY/edit?usp=sharing. Hopefully it will allow us to fine tune the volumes a bit better.

@AlexandraDowlin-NOAA can you share the special projects & their boat allocations when you have it? That will determine the chemical request amounts.

@SarahFriedman-NOAA boat assignments have been confirmed. I have shared with you our GOA Request Review spreadsheet. The amount of chemicals requested and boat assignments are complete.

For this year I am recommending the following chemical inventory:

Ethanol: 25 gallons (Ocean Explorer), 25 gallons (AK Provider) Formalin: 5 gallons (both boats) Otolith solution: 15 gallons (both boats)

There are a number of projects that require a little bit of ethanol on both boats, so I added 5 gal to our normal 20 gal per boat just to be on the safe side.

Ned and Bethany -- the deadline for this needs to be after the special project boat allocation because that informs the chemical allocation.

@AlexandraDowlin-NOAA can you share the special projects boat allocations when you have it? That will determine the chemical request amounts. I also wanted to confirm whether the mesopelagic fish project (PI: Christopher Martin) was removed from both the AI and EBS? or just the EBS? Also awaiting word from Ned about what level of support to expect on chemical supplies for those few projects requesting larger quantities. Currently the task due data is April 1.
