Data product requested: I downloaded data previously and it contained the following columns: LATITUDE,LONGITUDE,STATION,STRATUM,YEAR,DATETIME,WTCPUE,NUMCPUE,COMMON,SCIENTIFIC,SID,BOT_DEPTH,BOT_TEMP,SURF_TEMP,VESSEL,CRUISE,HAUL. Please see attached file. I am requesting more recent data (from 2014-2023).

Output type: csv

Species: all species

Region :

GOA (this may have previously included the Aleutians? (from -169.96897 to -132.8038). Please see attached file **Research team making the request:** Kelly Hastings, Alaska Department of Fish and Game; kelly.hastings@alaska.gov [goa2007_2013.zip](https://github.com/afsc-gap-products/data-requests/files/15227465/goa2007_2013.zip)

Hi Kelly. Sorry for the delay. I will get these to you by the end of the week. Stay tuned!

Thanks for your patience. I’ve attempted to recreate the query but wanted to iron out some details. The request is for non-zero filled CPUE data (i.e., positive weight records only) from the GOA during 2014-2023 with some associated haul-level data (bottom temperature, cruise, haul number, etc.) and taxon information.

  1. Did someone from GAP send you the CPUE data for the earlier time period and if not, where did you previously download these data from?
  2. My assumption is yes but are these data only coming from standard hauls (i.e., well-performing, GAP-standardized hauls)?
  3. The -9999 dummy value for the NUMCPUE field are NA values?
  4. Is the lat/lon field referring to the the position at the start or the end of the haul tow?

Hi - Thanks so much for your help with this. I downloaded these zip files from a site associated with the RACE program: first in 2010 and then again in 2014. Ive attached the 2009 report I downloaded with these data in 2010 to get the strata codes (I had to remove this because it was too large to send to you - it is report NOAA-TM-AFSC-208).

I have this info in my notes: think this data no longer exists on that page....

"Mail_Address: @.*** - point of contact citation: AFSC/RACE: Alaska Groundfish Survey 1982-2013 for web Online_Linkage: http://www.afsc.noaa.gov/RACE/groundfish/survey_data/ The Resource Assessment and Conservation Engineering Division (RACE) of the Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC) conducts bottom trawl surveys to monitor the condition of the demersal fish and crab stocks of Alaska. These data include catch per unit effort for each identified species at a standard set of stations. This is a subset of the main racebase datase. Excluded are non standard stations, earlier years using different gear, and other types of data collected other than species id, species weight, water temperature and depth. Purpose: The data set was developed to describe the temporal distribution and abundance of commercially and ecologically important groundfish species, examine the changes in the species composition of species over time and space, and describe the physical environment of the groundfish habitat."

I think you're right about the -9999 meaning NA?

I found these notes of mine from 2010 (word file attached) - that had an attribute table for these data (must have accompanied the zip files where they resided??)

lat/long appears to be the start of the tow (see word file).

I thought maybe these zip files were still being creating the same way for download. I hope this isn't a difficult query using the new system.

Thank you! Kelly Hastings

Got it! So, the portal for these catch and effort data exists in a public-facing program called the fisheries one stop shop (FOSS)

In the "Parameters" section you can choose the survey, survey years, and species and you'll get CPUE data with haul and taxon information. The field names won't necessary match up with the spreadsheet you shared and it is also zero-filled, but this is the way we suggest folks access catch and effort data going forward. Try FOSS and let me know if this will fulfill your data request. And if you need further help toggling through, email me (zack.oyafuso@noaa.gov) and we can share screens and figure it out.

Thanks, Zack
