Figure 1 (overall trend)

Rather ‘busy’. Perhaps reducing the types of error represented (SE, SD, and 95% CI) would help.

Suggested changes: Keep the 95% confidence interval (gray shading) around the biomass index mean, the biomass index mean (make this black line thicker?), the survey data points, the long term meaning and the +/-1SD dashed line

Remove:
Survey SE error bars, the +/- 2SD dashed line (keeping the long term mean and the +/- 1SD). Remove the background gridlines.

Figure 2

Stacked columns can sometimes make it hard to see the trend for a specific region. However, highlighting the subregional trends in the ‘Status and Trends’ text (as in the example) works!
