Currently, autoFill populates the input field with the value of the topmost result in the results list (considered the most relevant). A better autoFill would change the value in the input field every time the user changes selection via UP/DOWN and PAGEUP/PAGEDOWN keys. Very similar to what Google does when selecting search term suggestions below the search field.
